Our Puzzle Dictionary
Letterlicious uses a word list to work out what words are valid. We've tested a number of lists so far and due to the lack of plurals and verb endings in our earlier lists, we've moved over to a version of a scrabble valid list for longer words. So currently:
- Two and three letter words are very limited but well documented for such games as Scrabble, we use the official list of acceptable words for American tournament play approved by the National Scrabble Association. It is based on the Official Scrabble Players' Dictionary (OSPD)
- As of January 2011 we've swapped in a word list provided by the Internet Scrabble Club. We have chosen the TWL list which contains around 161,000 words. We are not using the much larger SOWPODS, ODS or Zinga lists - which are exceptionally large.
We will review words submitted by players but I expect we've bypassed the necessity of this feature by using the new lists. We'll see.
Send us a new word
But no matter how diligent we try to be there will be some common words we have missed (plurals for example). The left hand form below allows you to check again if a word is present in our list, and the right hand form allow you to send us a new word. If we think the word is valid we will add it to our list. We will be approving new words after the current puzzle has passed. You can check words between 3 and 12 characters, but
only Words must be 5 to 12 characters long will be considered for additions.
Note: Proper names and normally capitcalised words will not be accepted - as per Scrabble rules.
